Back To School

Here in Phnom Penh, Khmer New Year is almost here!  After the holidays comes Term 3. Is your child ready for “Back To School”?

Back To School

Returning to school after a long holiday can be a challenge for parents, teachers and students alike. At our schoolhouse here in Phnom Penh, we encounter extended holidays 3 times a year.

Parents often fear their children will “forget” school after so much time away. Teacher’s worry about jetlagged students, not keen on school after so much time away.

What’s the DK school method to combat ‘back to school blues’ ?

Parent’s Can:

Make sure your little one gets a good night sleep the night before. An early bedtime (and at least 8-10 hours of uninterrupted sleep) will make for a much happier child the next morning.

Get your child ready for school a few days in advance. Start talking about school, what they will be doing in class and engaging your child in discussion about school.

Make the first morning of school a happy occasion. Now we at DK Schoolhouse know, this is much easier said then done as parents have to rush out the door and deal with a myriad of other demands. But small things can make a huge difference in how your child feels on their first day back. A good-morning cuddle. A soft whispered song in their ear. A pre-planned outfit that they look forward to wearing. A special breakfast on the way to school. A chit-chat in the car along the way.

And most importantly remember that children need  time to get used to changes. If the first day back is rough, don’t give up. Keep up a consistent and positive routine and very soon your child will be right back in the swing of things.

DK teachers are here to help make the transition as smooth as possible. We are all here to help you! PS: Click here to download your copy of our school calendar.

Happy Holidays!
